InnovationLab – vitalink provides tools in this free series to empower non-profit marketing
For three decades, our mission has been to empower, educate, and elevate our community. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we’re looking back at 30 defining moments, campaigns, and partnerships that have made a lasting impact.
“This session really allowed my brainstorming gene to work. There are areas of branding that we need to reevaluate and this session has allowed me to discover those areas and focus.
This has been an extremely beneficial workshop series. Thank you! Thank you!”
~ Hannah Earnhardt, Executive Director of
Caring Community Foundation
Today, we’re proud to highlight a vitalink program that perfectly embodies our commitment to purpose-driven marketing and giving back: the Innovation Lab Workshop Series on non-profit marketing.
In a world where non-profits are constantly asked to do more with less, effective communication isn't just a luxury—it's a vital necessity. Recognizing this need, we launched Innovation Lab: Target. Plan. Engage., a series of three intensive workshops designed exclusively for the dedicated employees of non-profit organizations to help with non-profit marketing.
What Was Innovation Lab?
This series was built on a simple but powerful premise: that the right strategy can unlock incredible potential. We wanted to move beyond theory and provide actionable, real-world marketing insights that non-profits could implement immediately.
The Format: Three focused, 90-minute workshops held at the United Way of the Greater Triangle in Morrisville.
The Purpose: To help organizations critically examine their outreach, develop robust plans, and truly engage their stakeholders.
The Commitment: The entire series was offered free of charge because investing in the success of our local non-profits is an investment in the health of our entire community.
Led by a Visionary Expert
The Innovation Lab was led by Jeanne Frazer, our president and a passionate advocate for the non-profit sector. With over 25 years of marketing experience—including speaking across the country and working hands-on with countless organizations—Jeanne crafted this series to address the common challenges she witnessed. She didn’t just teach; she facilitated, shared stories, and helped participants uncover innovative solutions to their most pressing marketing problems.
A Deep Dive into Strategy
The series was designed as a progressive journey, with each session building on the last:
Check Your Vitals: This first session was all about diagnosis. Participants got access to a research-based profile of donors. They also learned how to take their organization's marketing pulse, identify what was working, and pinpoint areas needing urgent attention and a fresh perspective.
3 Simple Steps to Engage Your Audience: Moving from diagnosis to action, this workshop provided a clear, actionable framework to cut through the noise and connect authentically with donors, volunteers, and the people they serve.
When Cheap is TOO Expensive: Perhaps the most impactful session, this workshop tackled the hard truths about ROI. We explored how sometimes the "free" or cheapest option can cost an organization far more in missed opportunities, wasted time, and diluted messaging than a small, strategic investment ever would.
A Lasting Legacy
The Innovation Lab was more than just a set of workshops; it was a statement of our values. It represented our deep-seated belief that non-profits deserve access to the same high-level strategic thinking that drives successful for-profit businesses.
As we reflect on 30 years of service, we remain incredibly proud of this initiative and the countless organizations we had the privilege to support through it. It stands as a testament to our commitment to not just be a service provider, but a true partner in innovation and growth for the Triangle community.
Here's to 30 years, and to continuing to find new ways to empower those who empower our community.
